I have 2 of what I call alternator conversions One a SA is 6 volt alternator and 130 is 12 volt alternator. The 6 volt was easier to do and has been a bit less trouble. The biggest improvement I have found is performance. My batteries are always charged better, tractors start and work better. I find that points, condencers, plugs, etc., last longer. From the generator days, I have a bushel of old regulators and distributor caps. I was always doing work on ignition system before. Work without results, and I can't hack that one. I have over past decade spent a sizeable sum on these tractors. If I considered them worth $1,500. each in 1990, I now have $5,000 each invested just on mechanical end. I also would not hesitate putting these tractors to work in field along side new ones. They may not be quite as fuel efficient, but the interest on investment would more than off set the fuel.
