To play the devil's advocate, if we extend this logic what would be a fair price for a pound of 16 penny nails? (getting the material, no print or quality control,...). Isn't supply and demand still a factor - doesn't the rule that demand with limited options for supply lead to higher prices apply to this business like it does to most others? I'm not saying they are raking us over the coals, but they are a business whoes objective is to make as much money as possible without killing off too many of us in the process. I paid $11 for a pitman bar today. It is maybe 3/4 of a board foot of lumber, cut to length, edges rounded over, and a few holes drilled. I suspect there was a fair bit of profit in it, and if there was more demand then even I might start producing them and selling them for $10.
