What I have done on my '34 Chev and a number of small engines is get the torque spec for the bolts off a standard torque chart making the assumption that the bolts were heat treated to some degree.With that in mind,I assume a Grade 5 bolt and measure the diameter.It then becomes a mater of simply looking up the torque on the chart.On my old truck,the bolts were 1/2" coarse thread.Torque spec was 80 ft-lbs.I would strongly suggest replacing the bolts because they do stretch.
