Sometime back the starter on my H would not engage.I just took it apart a couple of days ago and this is what I found, the round collar nut on the front end of the starter drive was off, this is the nut that has a recess on the back side to allow the spring in front of the drive to compress. The spacers were gone that prevents this nut from contacting the front housing when the starter is activated.I believe the 12 volt power must have been enough to knock the nut off with the spacers missing, also the threads and the end of the shaft were damaged.I put it all back together and my son in law welded it in four places,I smoothed it up with the grinder and put it back on,works great now ,started the tractor six times and ran the starter with switch off sounds good.Oh yes the spacers are there now! Sorry for the long post but it might save buying a new bendix which are rather expensive. Thanks ED
