I have recently started to restore a Farmall A tractor that has been untouched for over 25 years. Little is known of the history of the tractor other than it has been in Northern Alberta, (Canada) for its entire existence. I am trying to determine the year of the tractor and have found the following information: On the plate under the seat is the number 287358 which would indicate to me that the tractor is a 1950 Super A. Yet on the block, on the distributer side, at the top right hand side is the number 175218. Does this mean that the block is a 1946? Should these two numbers match or am I reading these numbers completely wrong? Thanks in advance.
