6 volt Farmalls came from the factory with positive ground. But running 'em with a negative ground won't hurt anything or damage any parts. The starter is polarity insensitive - spins the same direction regardless of ground polarity. The ignition coil has + and - terminals, but my experience running them with the polarity reversed is they work fine that way too. The only (minor) problem is the ammeter will read backward when hooked up negative ground, unless the wires have been swapped at the ammeter. Suggestion: Once you get your new parts and battery installed and connected (grounded either way you prefer), polarize the generator. Do this by momentarily shorting the BAT and ARM terminals at the regulator with a short piece of wire. Soon as you see a spark, you've successfully polarized.
