I believe what you are talking about is a shuttle, or what IH called a direction reverser. They were available in the 460U as well as other models. We have a 340U with one in it. It began its life as a hay sweep here in the Nebr. sandhills. The tractor is reversed (drives backwards) and was used to bunch windrows before the hay was stacked. The shuttle was and is a handy feature because you have forward and reverse in every gear but you have to clutch, and shift the shuttle and be stopped when you do it. I would imagine that a direction reverser would be a little hard to find in a salvage yard and I know that parts availability is "iffy" for them. I personally haven't seen many of them on those old IH tractors.
