Dan, they make an electric tach that the sending unit works off the alt. You have to go to a shop that can give you a reading off of the front pulley as to how many RPM the engine is turning, at wide open RPM. then you can set it acordingly. I have on one on my deisel pickup, has 2" face and works great. The gage reads 6000 on face but my engine only turns 3010. Don't worry bout the rest. Jack
