Duane - I use a engine hoist (cherry picker) and jack stands. A good 2 1/2 ton engine hoist can be purchased for around 200 dollars inc. the engine stabilizer. Splitting a tractor is not difficult..take your time..make sure everything is supported safely...and keep everything organized. I used small boxes to hold various components and the nuts/bolts/etc. for each component. A small bottle jack is invaluable for aligning everything up when you re-assemble. If you run into to something you don't understand chances are somebody here has done it before and can get you thru it. Good luck.
