Like White Smoke says, it sounds like you have a head gasket leak, letting water into the cylinders. Try retorqueing the head bolts and resetting the valve clearance. If that does not work, you may have to pull the head and check for flat mating surfaces and install new gaskets. Be sure to get a good quality gasket set. Best to get it from IH.
