Thanks Guys! I pulled the filter this evening and the screen looked awfull! LOTS of metal! I've been pulling a 5 yard dirt pan with this tractor since 2001 (around 500 hours). Before I bought the pan, I did a lot of clearing with a rear blade - Lots of heavy pushing in reverse. I was pushing backwards when it made a loud "POP". That's when the reverse trouble started. That "pop" happened in 2001, just before I started pulling the dirt pan. I've been limping it on, waiting for the right time to tear it down. Now it sounds like the time has come. I'll probably do most of the work myself, to save money, but I'll need a lot of advice and encouragement. I've replaced the clutch on 2 different 1066 IH's, so I'm fairly familiar with how the tractors are put together. Hope I don't drive you guys crazy asking questions. This job will be done at night and on the week-ends, so this may take a while. Thanks again for all the responce. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Mitch in Mississippi

To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
