maybe just the little rod on the shifter is worn off so when you put it in gear the tube is not movoing to enguage the output shaft of the tranny you will have to pull the pto assy off to find out all the answers i could give you will not fix it until we know what happened inside not hard to remove the fun is putting it back if you havent done it before the pto is either enguaged or not no such thing as weak
