My H would not stay in 5th gear so i decided to fix the problem seeing how the guy offered me $200.00 more for it if i had it fixed. The Main shaft in the transmission seemed to have to much play in it, so i split the tractor and removed the Transmission driveshaft bearing cage. Replaced the 2 bearings in the cage and put in a new main shaft piolt bearing. put the tractor all back together went to crank her and she started to roll fowards. Took the plateform back off the rear-end and then cranked her to see what it was doing, and the piolt bearing wasnt turing freely and the gear that drives the belt pulley was moving the tractor foward. Does this bearing need to wear in? (the bearing cage gear slide over the piolt bearing with no problem) or should I split the tractor again, put in the old main shaft piolt bearing that had some slop in it, and pray the other 2 new bearings will keep it in 5th??
