Don: Ya know, it could have been just a simple mistake of someone putting too much oil into the crankcase. Could have been rain into a misplace oil filler cap. I think you do NOT need to pull pistons at this time. A new IH head gasket and check head for warps and valve sealing and replace head. Run some and retorque head and repeat and reset valve lash. In taking head off, itCould easly have different headbolt torque after 50 years. Lowest cost and quickest is to replace gasket and run it for a while. (Craftmans pointer torque wrench is OK for Farmalls if you are real careful allowing pointer FREE movement.) After using a while you can have a better understanding of engine condition. Too many questions and not enough proof of correct answers now. G.
