Ed, I keep thinking about your post and decided to speak up. I would be concerned that debris in the muffler could drop down inside the manifold on shut down. A flake of rusted muffler could get into a valve and so a new muffler for $25 would be cheaper than a valve job. Maybe its nothing on the other hand maybe chunks of rust could cause some damage...good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario
