Big Diesel is correct. In addition, you can put a live pump on an M or Super M, and use the lift all reservoir or an add on. My M has live hydraulics and the reservoir beside the hood-- looks awful, going to change it some day. All Super M's with live hydraulics had the battery under the seat and the reservoir where the battery was. All Super M's (Stage 1 or 2) had the IH emblem on the grill. Some people, including dealers, thought if they upgraded the engine to Super M specs it became a Super M, thus the Super M decal and the Farmall emblem on the grill. Not true. Any question look at the serial number tag. M prefix is FBK, Super M prefix is SM.

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
