Well I have a story that says YES. A few years ago a fellow a few lines over from our farm had a dozer start in the middle of the night during a rainstorm. It started and crawled along into a ditch and up against a huge tree where it stalled and the wiring all burned up. He believes that there was a short in the wiring that the rainwater amplified, the wiring covers burned through and the dozer started on its own shorting to the starter..He swears that's what happened and the Farmer's Mutual paid for the damage caused by the fire..anything is possible. Steven@nd is correct about the old T Fords, a friend has one and if its hot and just the right spot he can hit the coil and the old Lizzie fires,starting..without a starter
