I have been following this site for about a year now, and have learned alot from others experience. Today was a good example. The H shifter has gotten sloppy over the years, and finally has started to lock between two gears at once. I did a bit of research in the archives(so handy on a Saturday morning) then felt confident enough to tackle the repair. I removed the shifter, and cleaned everything up. There wasn't much of the nub left. Then I started building up the end of the shifter with 6011 rod at 75 amps, grinding, trying it, building up, grinding, etc. After about an hour I had it! The end result was a 1/4" thick by 3/4" wide shifting tab with flat sides and slightly rounded corners. After a short "break in" trip down the driveway and around the yard, it seems tighter, and has a more positive feel to it than when I bought it 10 years ago. The best part though, to me, is that now I know what is happening at the other end of that black shifter knob. Makes me treat it a little nicer when shifting also. Thanks to everyone who has commented on these types of problems.
