Dunno...I just double checked and the IH service Manual GSS-1411 W/Revision1 date Feb 1976 says .015 on the lash. I have an IT shop manual IH-50 that confirms this. My guess is that the more lash (clearance) the less valve lift and lass power. The less valve lash the more lift and more power, but only to the point where the valves remain closed and do not open prematurely. So if everything is in spec, you might get away with less clearance.....BB
