I have a 44 A with around a half-turn of steering slop. My father in law messed with it years ago before I became the owner, and he said he welded a gear inside the steering housing. I also think he said a good bit of the front end had to come apart to gain access to the gear. I haven't had much of a problem using it for brush-hogging, but moving it down the highway around 5-miles was kinda dicey...trying to hug the shoulder without running out into traffic or off the shoulder wasn't much fun. I'm not messing with mine unless it gets worse since it's at its new home, and I don't plan on any more highway travel.
