There is a big nut on the underside of the housing with a cotter key through it, take out the cotter key and try snugging that nut up , and then put a new key in, make sure it is the biggest key that will fit the hole , or it will come loose again. This should tighten it up some, also you have adjustment on the linkage to play with as well. I have never opened up my '44 A steering box to look, but the manual has a good description of how to service it.
