Super C out of time???

I was using my Super C today and it was running perfect, shut it down and when I went to restart all it would do is back fire and set the muffler on fire. i pulled the cap off the mag and then checked timing , it appeared to be 180 out, so I moved the rotor and tried again and she fired up and is running perfect..why did this happen?????
