I acquired a Farmall 504 (gas) yesterday that's stuck and have some questions. 1965 isn't 'new' but it's much newer than all the others I've been messing with! Seems like kind of a 300/350 rear end with an overgrown Super C motor (150 cu inches non replaceable sleeves). It has IPTO and T/A and 3 pnt hitch. The T/A linkage is all there but one pin is removed and I think it is currently in the direct drive position. The IPTO seems to work. When disengaged I can turn the PTO by hand, when engaged I can't. The PO pulled plugs and had whatever brand of snakeoil in the cylinders soaking. I pulled the pan and saw #4 had oil past the piston, the others did not. Some very light rust showing on at least two of the cylinders. I tried jacking up a wheel today and rocking in gear which didn't even begin to budge. But also tried pushing in the clutch and rocking it and noticed that I could only turn the wheel in the direction of travel (for that gear). ie: in 5th gear I could turn the wheel forward, but not backward, and vice versa for reverse. Is that correct for these later transmissions, or is something else hung up in there? That didn't make sense to me. Thanks, Stan(VA).
