Haas, my '40 M has no electronics on it, no starter, the crank is a square shaft end that fits over a square shaft on the tractor. Interestingly enough I had a tractor guy looking at my M today and he asked me when we changed the crank..I told him that's the way it came from the factory and the tractor has been in our family since it was new..he was still not convinced. The shaft on the tractor has a square head on a round stock...and the M starts on the second lift of the crank everytime( except for the time my calves chewed the wire off in the barn yard)..My H has a round fitting for the crank..other H doesn't have any kind of crank fitting..go figure....Mike in Exeter Ontario
