I'm with you. I never could understand why someone would buy a tractor that had stood out for a decade or two, bring it home and try to fire it up without any fluid changes. I bought a tractor once and the owner insisted on getting it started before I got there, even though I bought it "not running." Well, his help cost me a ton of time and money. He drew all that old slug and watered oil all through the engine so it hade to come apart for a thorough cleaning.
