I did find the model number on the 404 carburetor
after a lot of cleaning. The zenith however did
not have the brass tag where the model number usually appears. The carburetor is a zenith
12522. In the ATS tractor sales page this is
not listed as a replacement for the 404. However
on the zenithfuelsystems.com page I see that
the 12522 is a valid replacement for the 404.
Mystery solved. I've sent my carburetor off for
rebuild.
