Need advice on fine tuning Farmall 300 distributor by

fine tuning the advance weight's springs. The reason I am looking for advice on this is because I'm only able to get a happy medium on power when adjusting the distributors timing. I have taken the distributor apart and checked everything and nothing seems unusally loose and all moving parts seems to be in good working condition. When I retard the timing on my 300 slightly, I gain more low end power while loosing a little power and rpm at top end. Then when I advance the timing on my 300 just a little, I loose some low end power while gaining power and rpm at the top end (and also causes the tractor to be a little harder starting). I feel that my springs on the advance weight's are not set right or are not operating at the right time do to too tight or loose tension. The springs feel strong and look original, But I was wondering if these springs should be set with a certain looseness or tightness on the holding pins. Currently I have both spring's set to where they just barely sit on the holding pin's without any tension on the springs by just bending the spring's loop ends. I feel there is more power potential in my 300 by fine tuning my distributor but maybe this is the way the tractor was originally set up. Any information, specifications, diagrams, best place to buy new springs, or suggestions that anyone has on the Farmall 300 distributor timing would be appreciated.
