If you look at almost ALL Super M's, you will almost never find two close to exactly alike. There were so many changes in 1953 as IH went from M to SM-TA many changes took place on the line literally overnight. The tractor with the battery under the seat but belly pump would be quite a find, because that means the transition was in its middle stage. My 53 SM, sn 27223, has belly pump and battery under gas tank. At the end of 53 (mine is about March/April 53) there were live hydraulics and battery change. That is a lot for a year. It was never really an option, you just needed to wait at the right time to buy what you wanted. Just think, in 53 you could buy two technically brand new SM's, and one could have live hydraulics and one could have belly pump. One of many reasons I love my Super M: each one has uniqueness. What ever happened to your SM's? I know my great uncle wished he didn't sell his, but while working on mine he is almost for sure it is the one he sold in 1973. I am looking into the possibilities, but it really brought out a lot of emotion in him when he realized how alike they were. Have a nice day!!!
