noise probably is because the gear lash is too tight if you want to find the bad mesh you will have to take of trans cover and jack up rear end and by putting it in the different gears and checking the lash should find the tight one let it howl as long as you have it full of lubricant ever heard a B run in 4th they have been howling since 39 but still work ok
