OK, since I took the paint off and pressure washed the old girl, the axle housing gaskets leak like a sieve. I have researched replacing these gaskets in the archives and have come up with differing opinions on this procedure. Some of the posts say you have to remove the axle housing completely from the tractor and then hassle getting the bull gear back on the axle during replacement. By the way, I'm doing this thru the PTO hole. Other posts say you can just loosen the bolt holding the bull gear and the bolts holding the axle housing on and pull the axle housing out a bit, then work the gasket on OVER the housing and drop it in place. Now, after looking at the picture of the gasket in the parts manual, I don't see how you can do this. It appears from the picture that the gasket fits pretty snug around the axle housing boss that goes into the main tub. Has anybody replaced these gaskets this way or is it even possible?? Or do I have to pull the thing completely out to do this job? Thanks, Larry
