Metal shavings in 504 hydraulics.

I bought a 504 (gas w/TA) several weeks ago that was stuck. Just got the motor freed up and buying parts. Today I pulled the plate on the right side to check for an old vs new style hyd filter and found that the round screen that plugs in on the face of the filter was about 50% plugged with debris, especially small metal shavings Does this sound like the TA is disentegrating? I understand the hyd's, TA and the rear all share the same fluid? Any suggestions at this stage?
