Personally, I don't think it should make any difference because an overbore kit was available for the M engine (248) that increased it to the 264 inches.

However, the 264 and 281 blocks have the numbers cast into them and I don't know if they were available as replacements for the old 248. A 248 can be made into a 281 by simply boring it out to accept the 450 sleeves.
