Walt, I'm not a tractor mechanic so take this part with a grain of salt. I have worked on a number of automobiles, and have replaced the thermostat in quite a few of them. I've always seen the spring side up in automobiles. I can't imagine a tractor being any different. But, I could be wrong. Anyone else here maybe could chime in? Rick
