They do make 7018AC rod they work almost as good as the DC 7018. I use to buy them all the time before we got a ac/dc welder. And they held better than any of the 60** ac rods. Especialy on heavy material. Also I find when welding heavy items at a high heat. Is to work at a slite tilt to the vevtical, working your way up hill .That way the molten slag does not run ahead of what your welding and you get a cleaner weld. Good luck
