Setting up an A-24 sickle bar mower

I just got my A-24 mower this past Saturday. The previous owner was not mechanically inclined and had some problems with the pit man arm breaking. The metal plate that connects to the the bearing assembly on the lower drive shaft is what broke. It appears that the mower was not aligned with the drive shaft casuing this metal plate to flex and eventually break.
I read recently in this group or the implement group on how to set up a mower for proper operation. I was unable to find that post. COuld anyone point me to that post or give me direction on properly setting up a sickle bar mower.
Any other insight into the cause of the pitman arm breaking would be helpful.
