You can't lose for $300. The water in the oil could be the stuff you mentioned, you just have to tear into it and find out. If it's a head gasket, that's pretty reasonable...cracks on the side of the block behind the carb are fairly easy to see, and can be repaired pretty easily, as long as the crack doesn't run across the top where the head gasket goes...Sometimes it's cheaper to find a parts tractor then to buy a block from someone else... Every restoration I have done, I've always had a parts tractor, got what I needed off it, and sold the other parts...lot of fun
