I just bought a gear drive 826 diesel with around 5500 hours on it, and I got a pretty good deal, mostly because antifreeze has been showing up in the oil pan. The engine runs great, and everything else on the tractor works fine. I knew about the coolant leak and bought it anyways though. I've seen this subject come up at least five other times already, and everyone here has given some great advice. I'm not well versed on engine overhauls though, and was wondering if it's possible to go in and just replace the rings, if they are the source of the leakage, or is a complete overhaul required. Basically, I want to know if there's any way to avoid the costly overhaul thats staring me in the face. I know the Neuss D358 is tougher to overhaul, so any advice you guys could send would be great.
