Pete, at the bottom of the brake pan is a adjuster screw that needs to be turned in until it touches the brake band, this centers the band on the drum and if it isn't adjusted you won't get good brakes. Even with wear the drum shouldn't be that worn down that you can't adjust it for good brakes. The adjuster screw has a jam nut on it , loosen it and turn the screw, it won't go all the way in, just till you feel it snugging. Good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario
