when #1 is on compression the mark at the flywheel should be straight down and say TDC you will have to clean the flywheel to see the mark. take plug out so you can look inside cycl to see the piston fully up remember compression. You can tell by putting your finger in the spark-plug hole as it is turned over with a crank or the starter. IT is best to have all the plugs out. #1 is the one close to the radiator. When you have determined that you are on TDC and piston is completely up take off the magneto cap and see if the rotor is pointed to the #1 wire going to the plug. The rotor can bemoved by taking off the two screws next to the rotor shaft and turning the rotor shaft so that the rotor points to the #1 terminal. You are now ready to fire up. A slight turn of the crank the mag should snap and rotor will jump clockwise ahead turn crank again till #3 comes up and rotor should be lined up with the next terminal on the cap as the firing order is 1342 and that is stamped on the block. Tha mag can be installed 180 out of correct position. If when #1 Is on TDC the rotor is pointed to #4 terminal on cap you are 180 out and the mag will have to be removed by taking the two cap screws out and turning the mag over 1/2 turn. If the procedure is followed and things arent lined up correct the gears arent lined up and the front cover will have to be removed. THIS is another procedure and we will cover that if neccesary. This should get you going.

Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce
