Russ - The correct generator is a 3 brush Delco with a non-adjustable 3rd brush. (Earlier IHC tractors used a generator with a adjustable 3rd brush that you could use to adjust maximum current output). I believe the only external difference between the two generators is the presence or absence of a 10-32 brush holder clamping screw in the commutator end plate. I don't have the Delco model number handy, but I can look for it tonite. Punch below for a wiring diagram for a '53 SM.
