I have been down that same road. The new PAR36 just don't fit in the old housings. The contacts stick out to far, and the lip where the gasket goes is the wrong thickness. I finally replaced the whole housing on the side that was burned out with a modern 6V tractor lamp. I got the metal type, instead of the more common rubber type, and painted it red. While it is obviously not original, it still looks pretty kewl. It is also a whole lot brighter than the old one on the other side. I will probably replace that one some day as well. They will at least match, and I will be able to see better at night. I also put one on the back, roughly where the original rear light would go if it was still there. I covered the top half of the sealed beam with red tape that was sold for the purpose of repairing broken tail light lenses. That way I get red light on the rear, plus a little white light in case I want to see what I am doing back there. Note that, while I am gradually replacing/repairing/painting my Farmall 100 parts, I have to actually use the thing almost daily as well, so the brighter, new lights, while not correct for the tractor, are a lot more useful than the old ones, especially if they are burned out. :-)
