Some more thoughts, you say the crankcase breather smokes when the engine comes under load? What condition is engine in and or has it been overhauled recently? After the engine died did you try re-starting it and did it start? Have you checked your gas cap? After running for a couple of hours the engine might have consumed enough gas that if the vent in the cap was plugged then a vacuum formed and stopped the fuel flow. Any other details might help.
