Here in Wisconsin, we have two 856's, an 826, and a 2+2 we use all winter long. The 2+2 has a either inject from the cab, but so much hydraulics to warm up and so much power to haul round bales or a load of manure (us tough Wisconsin boys prefer toughing it out in a foot of snow without the cab, he he he) so that leaves the other three. The 826 is so cold blooded we strongly dislike using it under 45 degrees. The hydraulcs lock up, power steering, power tranny or something, you have no power steering or anything and suddenly it comes to life, jerks you about off the seat, all your hydraulics work, oil light goes off, and it has power you would never know it has. Will not wake up without liberal ether. One 856 will start in the dead of winter, no plug in heater, with a few sprays. Again, we don't enjoy using ether on the engines. The other 856 you better have remembered to plug in the water heater, otherwise you're screwed. Sometimes it needs a single squirt of ether to get it to finally fire even while plugged in. We know it isn't healthy, but actually use it liberally. I know ether + glow plugs are a no-no, but like all of our 8's, one 10 years, one 20 years, and one 32 years of drinking ether, no problems yet. I have been raised to simply not force things and somedays just accept the fact that it isn't going to start. That's all I felt intrigued to say.
