There is an oil passage up through the block to provide oil to the rocker arm assembly. It is fed from the middle cam bearing. This is on the spark plug side of the engine. The head gasket is the only thing that seals this joint between the head and block. When you pull the head off check in this general area first. Check, as the other post said, both the block and head surfaces before putting a new gasket in place.
