NEWBIE QUESTIONS - IH 3444 TRACTOR/LOADER/BACKHOE

Posted by Mike on August 24, 1999 at 19:17:39 from (24.218.22.88):

Looking-gift-horse-in-mouth dept.: I was recently offered an IH 3444 TLB, gratis, if I removed same from the owner's property. An examination showed: gas engine (4-cyl), Sims cab (w/o glass), boom & dipper fully extended, and hasn't run in 6+ years. It appears complete, minus battery. Some bush-wacking will be needed to find serial # plate. I'm a sucker for a "lost cause"/tinker project. Saw a similar unit (running) in paper for $6k recently. I can use this machine as a homeowner's machine in very near future. Any words of wisdom/suggestions/cautions or offers of psychiatric help greatly appreciated! Says "Backhoe special" on rear fenders. Any clue what years these were manf'd? Has weird, oblong battery box. Pos or neg ground? Will be going back this week w/machete and a used battery/fluids etc to attemp resurrection/if stuck, will pull plugs and shoot Kroil down the bores and be patient. Sorry for long post! TIA, all! - Mike
