George: I have no problem agreeing with what you are saying. There is no question that wide front does give some measure of increased stability. That is simply because pivot point of narrow front is at ground level and pivot point of wide front is at pivot on front axle. I don't believe however that anyone can come up with an exact formula for every situation. I farmed a lot of years with a number of Farmalls. My farming operation for the most part was level ground. Had a few hills but most of that land was pasture. I had one rule of thumb with any Farmall larger than SA narrow or wide front. Rear tires were set on 72 inch or wider centres or tractor had duals. If you want to see something to scare the H&%^$ out of you watch these guys with 100 hp 4x4 geared up for duals so front and inside rears are set at 60 to 66 inch tread and running without the duals. My 1066 was set with inside duals at 66 inch tread and the few times I ever had those duals off was scary. Had a lot more thrills on probably 5 hours of 1066 without duals than 32 years of 300 narrow front. I believe those big tractors, without duals, turning with heavy draft of say 4 loaded grain wagons, could upset themselves on level ground, if the draft suddenly became heavy.
