Maybe this will make George's point more easy to understand:

Take a baseball bat, point it up into the air, and balance it on your hand from underneath. That's somewhat like a narrow-front tractor with the pivot point where the tires meet the ground.

Then take the bat, point it downward, and hold it from the top. That's somewhat like a wide-front tractor with the front pivot point elevated.

This overstates things a bit, but hopefully should make George's point more clear.
