KC: Did you pull the starter? I'd say the spring and pinion gear end might need cleaning and a little 20W Non-Detergent oil. Often the pinion gear spring becomes a little weak and a dirty shaft causes it to be sluggish. Consequently, the pinion gear doesn't spiral forward quickly to engage the fly wheel. Also, check the armature segments for accumulated graphite clogging. A good cleaning fluid, such as tetrachloride, which I don't think is available commercially anymore, and some very fine sand paper would help if that be the problem? "TU"
