Sam: Back in the 1950s we used to have tractor pulls at Musq. Didn't have sofisticated equipment like they have today. We used a stone boat made out of a 4x8 sheet of 1/2 inch steel, turned up a bit like a runner at each end and heavy angle to stiffen the sides. We used sand boxes 100 and 200 lb. Winner was the guy that could pull the highest percentage of his tractors weight. Three tractors that were very hard to beat were SA, SH and Cockshutt 30. Those were the tractors they would let we teenagers have. Have seen guys comming in there with Farmall Ms Six cylinder Olivers and Cockshutts, enough weight on them to sink a battle ship. Three time their weight was H#$%^ of a pull.In the dying moments you would see them weighing men to put on the sled, when they ran out of weight. Used a 6 foot chain to pull with. It was a lot of fun, especially when we beat them.
