Good point! Unless you have a high quality "float" service charger or equivalent, best to only charge the battery for a few hours once every couple of months or so. Also do not leave the battery charger connected to the battery when not actually charging. Many cheap chargers exhibit a high level of "leakage" current when shut off - they will slowly discharge the battery if left connected.
